WhatsApp introduces new file-sharing system
According to WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently developing a new file-sharing feature that is similar to Android Quick Share and Apple’s AirDrop. The feature has been spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.2.20, but it is not yet ready for beta testing.
The new feature will allow WhatsApp users to share files with each other when their devices are in close proximity. Users will be able to search for other nearby users through the “People nearby” option, and both the sender and receiver will need to have this option open on WhatsApp to initiate the transfer process.
Once the transfer process is initiated, users will be able to shake their devices to view share requests. The new file-sharing feature will also keep information end-to-end encrypted, and user phone numbers will be hidden for added privacy.
It is unclear at this time whether WhatsApp’s new sharing system will have any size/file type/quantity restrictions or not. Further details about the feature will be available once it rolls out officially.
