TL;DR

  • WhatsApp Communities is getting two new features.
  • Users in Communities will be able to plan events directly in the app.
  • Users are now able to respond to announcements from admins.

WhatsApp has released an update introducing two new features aimed at bringing communities closer together. These features include event planning and replies in Announcement Groups.

In a recent blog post, the WhatsApp team announced the rollout of new features for WhatsApp Communities. The first feature allows users to plan events directly in the app, such as birthdays, dinner parties, or virtual meet-ups. Anyone in the group can create an event, and others can RSVP to indicate their attendance.

The Events feature is initially being introduced to groups in Communities, with plans to expand to all groups in the near future. Event information can be found on the group’s information page, and attendees will receive notifications as the event approaches.

The second feature being launched for Communities is organized replies in Announcement Groups. This feature allows users to respond to announcements from admins, with replies grouped together and minimized to avoid cluttering the feed. Notifications are muted for everyone to streamline the communication process.

WhatsApp has also been testing a new feature that displays which of your contacts was recently online, with an option for users to hide their online status.
