Who is the superior wordsmith?

Mahmoud Itani from Android Authority discusses his mixed feelings towards Grammarly and his hopes that Apple Intelligence’s Writing Tools would be a suitable replacement. After testing out the beta version of Apple Intelligence’s AI features, he concludes that while the Writing Tools have their strengths, Grammarly will remain on his MacBook Air for the time being.

Apple Intelligence’s Writing Tools are available on select Apple devices, while Grammarly is a cross-platform service accessible on various operating systems. The Writing Tools feature by Apple allows for proofreading, rewriting, summarizing, creating key points, and adjusting text tone. It lacks the ability to generate text from scratch, unlike Grammarly.

In Mahmoud’s personal experience, Grammarly is used primarily for fixing typos, language errors, and rephrasing sentences. While Apple Intelligence’s rewriting feature may be useful for some aspects, the tone of the rewritten text seems too robotic and does not match his personal writing style. As a result, Grammarly’s proactive text scanning and smoother transition suggestions are preferred.

He acknowledges the potential of Apple Intelligence’s Writing Tools and its other useful options, such as summarizing text, listing key points, or adjusting tone. However, shortcomings like the lack of visual cues in Safari and the all-or-nothing approach make Grammarly a more preferred choice for now.

As Apple continues to develop and improve its Writing Tools, Mahmoud remains optimistic about the possibility of it becoming a viable alternative to Grammarly in the future.
