Edgar Cervantes from Android Authority reports that some Android users are seeing a new video player UI in the YouTube app. The latest player UI from YouTube relocates buttons and displays more information about the video. It also introduces a gesture that allows users to quickly move between videos in a playlist. Google uses A/B testing to test new features before releasing them to the public and gather feedback.
The new video player UI in the YouTube app on Android shows significant changes. The video title is now above the progress bar, the channel icon and subscriber count are next to the channel name, and the view count and published date are below the title. The expand button and rotate button have been moved to the top left, and a second playlist button has been added. The like, dislike, comment, share, and more buttons have been relocated above the progress bar on the right side. Additional changes are visible when watching videos in a playlist, including the ability to swipe up and down to navigate between videos.
Google has been testing this new UI with some Android users for several weeks, with mixed reactions from the YouTube community. Some users are not fans of the new design, while others believe it makes more sense on larger screens like TVs running Google TV. What do you think of the new video player UI?
