The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised concerns about the Congress government’s handling of the alleged corruption in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), which was built by the previous BRS government. The BJP questions the government’s lack of action in ordering a probe or holding officials accountable for the project’s design, planning, execution, and maintenance.
Rajya Sabha MP and national OBC president K. Laxman accused the government of attempting to cover up flaws in the project by presenting power point presentations from the same officials responsible for the project’s planning and execution. He expressed concern over the varying statements made by ministers who visited the project, and warned that the people of Telangana will not forgive the government for downplaying the project’s flaws, similar to the previous BRS government.
Mr. Laxman also questioned Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s calls for a CBI probe and evidence of corruption, questioning why the government has not taken any action. He highlighted the deficiencies in the project identified by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), including faults in design, planning, execution, quality control, and maintenance.
With over ₹93,970 crore spent on the project, Mr. Laxman raised concerns about the loan component and outstanding payments. He warned that the Congress government could face the same fate as the BRS government if it fails to take action against those responsible for project lapses, urging the submission of relevant information to the NDSA for remedial action.
