Mishaal Rahman at Android Authority discusses the new Galaxy Z Flip 6 and its lack of Samsung DeX support. While the phone doesn’t have DeX, it does have a hidden desktop mode that can be unlocked through a developer option. Previous models, like the Galaxy Z Flip 5, could only mirror the screen when connected to an external display.
Many Samsung fans wish the Galaxy Z Flip had DeX, a desktop mode found on other flagship devices. DeX provides a desktop-like UI with features like a taskbar, freeform windows, and support for keyboard and mouse shortcuts. Despite the Z Flip lineup’s hardware capabilities, DeX support has not been enabled due to thermal concerns.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a desktop mode UI that falls between stock Android and Samsung DeX. Although it lacks some features, like a system information taskbar, it allows for launching apps in freeform windows with title bars. While improvements have been made compared to the Z Flip 5, DeX support is still absent.
Samsung has considered adding DeX to the Z Flip line but has ultimately decided against it. However, there is hope that the feature may be added in the future, as many users are interested in having it. In the meantime, users can use third-party solutions like Taskbar from Google Play for a desktop-like experience on the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
