Google Photos may soon have a feature that allows users to show only backed-up content from third-party apps in their main feed. This feature may also be customizable on a per-app basis across more third-party apps. Additionally, Google Photos may show users a count of items in device folders that have not been backed up yet.
Google Photos is a versatile app that not only provides cloud storage for photos and videos but also offers various photo editing features. Many Android users rely on it as their primary photo management app due to its preinstallation on Android phones. Google is working on improving clutter management within the app for users who back up photos and videos from third-party apps onto Google Photos.
An APK teardown of Google Photos v6.99 revealed a new option under the “Show content from other apps” header called “Only show backed-up content.” This option allows users to see images from third-party apps that are backed up or waiting to be backed up, giving them more control over their primary feed. Users can customize this setting per app, and more third-party apps will be supported.
Google Photos will also soon display the number of photos that have not been backed up from each device folder. This will help users track the items in the folder that are not included in their backed-up images. It may be beneficial for Google to also show the size of these files to help users determine if uploading them to Google Photos is feasible under their Google One plan.
While these features are not currently available in Google Photos, users are hopeful that Google will eventually roll them out to improve the app’s functionality. The screenshots provided in the article have a dark tint due to internal settings adjustments.
