Gemini, formerly known as Bard, has been available for over a year now, and Google allows users to switch to this new chatbot as their default assistant on Android phones.
Have you made the transition from Google Assistant to Gemini? Let us know by participating in our poll below.
Have you switched from Google Assistant to Gemini?
– Yes: 70 votes (40%)
– No: 40 votes (40%)
– I don’t use assistants: 20 votes
There are numerous reasons why you might consider switching to Gemini, including its improved natural language processing, ability to understand complex questions, and capacity to summarize text. It even has the capability to answer questions about uploaded images, like screenshots and photos. Our colleague Ryan Haines has also found himself warming up to Gemini after using it with the Pixel 9 series.
However, Google Assistant still holds an edge in certain aspects. It provides more comprehensive support for routines and automations, better integration with smart home devices, and the ability to toggle device settings. Additionally, Google Assistant supports interpreter mode and some media services that are not accessible through Gemini.
It is important to note that Gemini still relies on Google Assistant for certain tasks, such as device-specific settings (such as flashlight and phone calls), setting alarms and timers, and controlling smart home devices. If you use these features through Gemini, be sure to vote “yes” in our poll.
