Constable suspended after man dies from self-immolation attempt in Tirupati

Unfortunately, a man who attempted self-immolation at Chandragiri police station has passed away while receiving treatment on Wednesday. The Tirupati district police have launched an investigation into the incident and have suspended the constable who was on duty at the time.

The deceased, B. Manikanta (32) of Vijayawada, was married and had two children. His wife had reportedly started living with a person named Sonu in Chandragiri.

After failing to persuade his wife to return, Mr. Manikanta tried to file a complaint with police constable Pagadala Srinivasulu, who allegedly displayed an indifferent attitude. Upset by the constable’s behavior, he purchased petrol from a fuel station, set himself on fire, and ran into the police station.

Despite the efforts of the police personnel on duty to rescue Mr. Manikanta and rush him to a hospital, he tragically passed away on Wednesday. His relatives, along with local TDP leaders, protested in front of the police station, expressing anger over the police’s “laid-back attitude.”

Following the suspension of the constable, the Superintendent of Police has promised appropriate action based on the outcome of the inquiry.
