Biometric logins could be coming soon to the Find My Device app (APK teardown reveals)

Edgar Cervantes from Android Authority notes that the Find My Device app on Android will soon be able to manage Android trackers as well. Currently, users need to log in with their account password each time they want to manage their devices, but a biometric login feature is in the works. This feature is not yet available, but could be launched in the future. The upgraded Find My Device app will serve as a central hub for tracking Android devices, including upcoming Android trackers that will compete with AirTags. Google is exploring ways to streamline the login process, with biometric unlocks being a potential solution.

The current Find My Device app requires users to enter their account password every time they access it, though they can choose the “Don’t ask again” option to avoid this. Enabling biometric login adds an extra layer of security while maintaining convenience. This feature will be crucial as the new Find My Device network expands worldwide and Android trackers become more common. Additionally, a new Remote Lock feature within Google Play Services will soon allow users to lock their device using just their phone number and a security challenge.

While these features are not yet live, Google is currently testing them and they may be rolled out in the near future. For tips or more information, readers can contact Android Authority at news@androidauthority.com. They can choose to remain anonymous or receive credit for their input.
