TL;DR
- Google Photos is developing a new feature called “Show less” that will allow users to hide specific faces from appearing in Memories, without completely blocking them from group photos.
- This new feature is expected to be a more subtle alternative to the existing “Block face” option.
- The “Show less” option is not currently active in Google Photos, but it is likely to be introduced in a future update.
Google Photos offers a range of impressive features that position it as one of the top photo storage applications available. The platform excels at recognizing faces accurately, even in challenging scenarios, and uses this information for functions like People Search and Memories. As life progresses, certain users may wish to reduce the visibility of specific faces, especially in Memories. Google Photos is preparing to address this by providing greater control over the faces displayed in Memories.
Android Authority contributor Assemble Debug has identified an upcoming feature in Google Photos version 6.81.0.628906483. This feature, known as “Show less,” will allow users to exclude a face from their Memories while still being visible in group photos. It appears to be a more moderate option compared to the “Block face” feature, which removes faces entirely from Memories and group photos.
Within the “People & Pets” section of Google Photos, where users can label faces that appear in their photos, a new “Hide face from memories” feature will be added. Screenshots reveal how users can add a face to this section, triggering a dialog box for further action.
A revised settings flow will be introduced to accommodate this change, accessible through Settings > Preferences > Memories > Hide people & pets.
Although this feature is not currently live in the app, it is being tested by Google and could potentially be rolled out in a future update. The timeline for its release is unclear, but given its usefulness in managing unwanted memories, it is anticipated to launch soon.
