The Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha will make a decision regarding the summoning of TMC MP Mahua Moitra and others mentioned in a letter sent to the panel by businessman Darshan Hiranandani. Hiranandani claimed that Moitra provided him with her Parliament login ID and password. The committee will examine the evidence presented by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai on October 26 before reaching a decision.
Dubey and Dehadrai have been asked by the committee to appear with oral evidence supporting their allegations that Moitra asked questions in the Lok Sabha in exchange for favors and gifts from Hiranandani. They also claim that Moitra allowed Hiranandani access to her Parliament login ID and password.
The panel will examine the evidence and then decide who else to summon for examination, The Indian Express has learned.
The controversy surrounding the charges against Moitra continues to escalate. Dehadrai claimed on X that he was being pressured to withdraw his complaint in exchange for Moitra’s dog, Henry, whom they are currently fighting for custody of. Dubey immediately reacted on X, tagging the Lok Sabha Speaker and the TMC handle, and accused Moitra of pressuring Dehadrai.
In another post, Dubey compared Moitra to JMM general secretary Pankaj Mishra and questioned if another similar situation was unfolding. He also contrasted Moitra with Mamata Banerjee, stating that Banerjee only wears saree and slippers while Moitra forces friends to gift her luxury items.
Moitra also responded on X, offering to answer questions from the CBI and the Ethics Committee while criticizing the panel. She stated that she would only participate if and when she is called, as she has no interest in engaging with media circus trials or responding to BJP trolls. She also mentioned that she is enjoying Durga Puja in Nadia.
Two hours later, Moitra posted again on X, expressing her concerns about the Ethics Committee chairman openly speaking to the media and questioning how an affidavit was leaked to the media. She reiterated her belief that the BJP’s main agenda is to expel her from the Lok Sabha and silence her on matters concerning Adani.
