Jamie Foxx gives emotional speech about his medical emergency in first public appearance since being hospitalized

Jamie Foxx is opening up about his harrowing medical crisis earlier this year.

Foxx, 55, spoke at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television Honoring Black, Latino & AAPI Achievements, where he was recognized with the Vanguard Award for his role in The Burial.

Onstage, he confessed to the crowd at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, “You know, it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago — I couldn’t actually walk,” according to Variety.

Foxx also addressed the rumors that circulated after his unexpected hospitalization in April, jokingly dismissing the conspiracy theories about him being a clone.

Speaking earnestly about his ordeal, Foxx said, “I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy, because it’s tough when it’s almost over … when you see the tunnel.” He admitted, “I saw the tunnel — I didn’t see the light.”

Reflecting on his experience, Foxx added, “I have a new respect for life. I have a new respect for my art.”

He also expressed gratitude to his family, especially his sister and daughter, for supporting him during his health struggle and keeping it private during his initial hospitalization and recovery.

Foxx was hospitalized on April 12, and the nature of his condition has not been revealed.

On July 22, the actor shared an emotional video discussing the ordeal and thanking everyone for their support. “I went through something that I thought I would never, ever go through,” he revealed.
