The Ghost of the Lighthouse is a short film that explores the life of a small-town tourist guide and her search for happiness. Created by renowned dancer Savitha Sastry and directed by award-winning Director AK Srikanth, this film marks their eleventh collaboration in celebration of their production house’s eleventh year. Alongside Savitha, the film also stars Jamie Alter, son of legendary actor Tom Alter, in a significant role. The film will be released on OTT on October 28th, 2023.

This short film offers a touching glimpse into the lives of ordinary people in small towns. The characters in the film are relatable to those we encounter in our everyday lives, from annoying sales callers to tourist guides and vendors in local bazaars. The film delves into the life behind the voices we often ignore. It tells a poignant story through stunning visuals and a deeply moving narrative.
According to acclaimed Bharathanatyam dancer Savitha Sastry, “I believe this is the most well-rounded character I have ever had the opportunity to portray. Through this character, I embody the lives of ‘everyday people’ – their hopes, ambitions, and dreams. It’s a truly genuine and poignant experience.”
As expressed by Director and Writer AK Srikanth, “I aimed to create a film that gently impacts the viewer, much like the breeze that greets you during a solitary dawn walk by the sea. The team of Savitha, Jamie, and Abhay (music) has indeed crafted an experience that is sublime.”
The husband-wife duo, Savitha and Srikanth, deviate from their usual intense style to present a film that is subtle, darkly humorous, and wistful. The Ghost of the Lighthouse is not a horror film, as the title may imply, but rather a reflection on the countless memories we carry throughout our lives. Through beautifully developed characters, the film explores the question, ‘Where do I find joy?’ in a unique way that hasn’t been attempted in short films before.
Speaking about the script, Jamie Alter said, “The moment I read the script, I knew I had to be a part of this project. From the writing to the visualization, filming, and editing, Srikanth had a clear vision, and I am thrilled and honored to be involved!”
