Google is currently testing new generative AI tools for YouTube, aiming to enhance user experience and engagement on the platform. One of the experiments involves using AI to summarize the broad topics discussed in the comments section of select videos. This will make it easier for users to participate in discussions and for creators to gather feedback. The comment summaries will be visible on English videos for select users and can be sorted by “✨Topics.” YouTube Premium members can opt-in to test this feature.
In addition, Google is also testing a conversational AI tool that allows users to obtain answers to video-related questions without interrupting playback. This tool provides recommendations for related content and includes AI-generated quizzes for specific academic videos. Users can access the conversational AI tool by tapping “✨Ask” under select videos. Initially, this experiment is only available to a small number of people on a small subset of videos, but in the future, YouTube Premium members in the US using Android devices will be able to join in.
