Edgar Cervantes of Android Authority reports that Google Photos may soon introduce a new setting to control the visibility of backed-up photos from other apps. This feature will allow users to decide whether these images appear in their main Photos feed. Additionally, there will be a custom setting to toggle visibility on a per-app basis, with images from other apps tagged accordingly.
As of now, this feature is not yet live in Google Photos, but it could be rolled out in the future. Currently, Google Photos is a popular choice for photo storage and management, but there is room for improvement. This upcoming feature will be particularly useful for users who use Google Photos for both storage and viewing.
The current behavior of Google Photos displays all photos in the primary view from the DCIM folder. For photos outside this folder, users can access them in Library > Photos on device. Enabling backup for folders outside the DCIM folder will also display those images in the primary Photos view, alongside camera photos.
The new feature spotted by Android Authority contributor Assemble Debug in Google Photos v6.813 includes a “Photos view” section in settings. This section will allow users to customize the visibility of backed-up images from other apps in their primary Photos feed. Options include Show all, Hide clutter, Show none, and Custom, with the ability to individually set preferences for specific third-party apps.
This feature is currently being tested by Google and may be rolled out in the future. It is a helpful tool for organizing the Photos view while still retaining access to backed-up content. Stay tuned for updates on this new feature in Google Photos.
