Bhubaneswar: Former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das was appointed governor of Odisha, a press communique from Rashtrapati Bhawan said on Wednesday. Das will replace incumbent Ganeshi Lal.
Das was the first non-tribal CM of Jharkhand from 2014 to 2019 and is a former RSS functionary. He is currently a national vice-president of the BJP.
The 68-year-old leader from the OBC community was elected to the Bihar and Jharkhand assemblies five times and represented Jamsedpur East from 1995 to 2019. The law graduate had participated in the Jayaprakash Narayan-led movement and was jailed during emergency. tnn
